Install-A-Thons provide a time for new users to learn about & install Linux on thier machines
Bringing your computer for Linux installation:
- If you have a laptop, great! You can easily run Live-CD if you don't want to install Linux.
- For desktops, please bring the computer, keyboard, mouse, monitor (See below for monitor info), power cord, and one(1) speaker (optional, for testing sound).
- Your computer must have working CD drive.
- Any x-86 based machine is acceptable, this includes your home or office computer. A system with an Intel or AMD processor.
- If you can't bring something, there may be some extras available
- MONITORS: if you bring one, it MUST be a flat panel. We do not have room for old CRT monitors. There may be a few extra monitors if you can't bring yours.
Installing Linux:
- You will have the choice of which distribution you would like installed. The default is Ubuntu, but to see a list of distros SWMLUG focuses on, click here.
- Make sure you have time, the install can take over an hour.
You are welcome to come and see/try Linux and watch demonstrations even if you are not installing Linux!
